In addition to enabling efficient and accurate data center replication, the visibility Blazent provided identified an opportunity to save $1.2 million through software rationalization and hardware consolidation, a 187% ROI. Further, Blazent provided the company with the tools to maintain the optimized environment.
Blazent automatically integrated data from existing corporate repositories to facilitate reporting and analytics mapped to business dimensions. This helped the IT department leverage existing investments. Specifically, Blazent seamlessly integrated HR data from an LDAP repository with more than 80,000 personnel records and quickly incorporated asset data from Peregrine Asset Center with over 8,000 IT asset records.
Using Blazent, the company was able to identify their server inventory and view the profiles of infrastructure and applications software currently available on their servers. The company was able to access and analyze the utilization trends of the hardware resources on their servers, and discover excess capacity that could be reallocated.
In just three weeks, Blazent integrated the inventory data from the company's multiple repositories to create a data warehouse of the company's PC and server inventory. This included inventory data from over 90,000 desktop and server assets, and 6,000,000 software titles.
Only 38% of the purchased diagramming program licenses were actually being used, and only 32% of the project management licenses were used. Combined, these findings pointed to additional savings of $2.4MM.
After reclaiming unused installations, not only was the company in compliance with its software licenses, it was able to further decrease its ongoing software licensing costs by an additional 19.9%. This added up to total license savings of nearly 40%.
