Garbage In – Gold Out:
The Blazent Golden Record

Blazent is uniquely different in the ability to take multiple sources of IT and financial data to deliver a single, reliable, and trustworthy inventory of IT information. There is no need to start with clean data. When you use Blazent, the old adage “garbage in, garbage out” simply does not apply. What does apply is “garbage in, golden record out”.

Multi-Source Reconciliation

Blazent leverages your data from across existing IT, financial, HR and other systems.

Blazent applies indirect association to automatically analyze similar data fields from across sources to understand which data is the best. Multi-source reconciliation quickly identifies incorrect information in each individual datasource such as typos or inconsistencies in asset names or serial numbers.

Unlike other tools or Excel-based approaches which can only deal with 2-3 sources, Blazent can deal with a virtually unlimited number of data sources for the highest quality outcome.

Identify Critical Conflicts

When there is a disagreement between sources, Blazent flags those conflicts for follow-up and creates an audit trail of the conflict and steps taken to resolve. Important conflicts like the asset status (retired or active), user location (which impacts taxes), and so on can be corrected while conflicts that do not impact business outcomes can be easily dismissed.

Select the “Best” Data

Not all data is equal. Information that is pulled from systems electronically is more reliable than manual entry of information. Blazent has built-in algorithms that apply logic and prioritize data that is from the most reliable sources.

Apply Logic

Blazent has built-in logic that applies to the special needs of IT outsourcing contracts. For example, we know that for most ITO engagements the “billable” status in the billing source is the same as “deployed” in the CMDB. The logic can be customized as needed for specific requirements.

Normalize Data

Blazent has experience with every possible type of hardware and operating system, and has built-in libraries that automatically interprets and normalizes formats in use.

Identify Missing Data Sources

Blazent is able to look at all records and reporting on what data is missing. For example, if an asset does not have a record of anti-virus is installed Blazent will flag that, indicating a severe operational issue.

Update Existing Systems

The Blazent Golden Record can be pushed back into existing systems such as CMDB or Asset Management repositories with updated, clean, and trusted data.
